Between 2020 and 2024, I published two books, a novel and a short story and essay collection, via hybrid or self-publishing. My novel Like a Fox to a Swallow was longlisted for the Devon & Cornwall International Novel Prize 2021, and the short story The Germanic Nights from my collection Almost Happy was nominated for the prestigious Pushcart Prize in the U.S.
Being a lawyer has certainly taught me to polish a text and keep a deadline. In addition, I worked as an Assistant Editor for the Kluwer Mediation Blog from 2020 to 2022, and editing other authors’ contributions was a great learning experience for me.
But the reason that I have achieved high-quality writing despite being self-published lies in the feedback I have received and used over the years. The critical reviews of test readers and editors have made all the difference.
I would now like to pass this knowledge and experience on to the writing community around me.
